When pressure hits, leadership performance matters more than plans.

I speak about how decisions, escalation, and communication actually play out under pressure and strengthen leadership capability before a serious incident does it for real.

Brace for Impact: From Crisis to Control

A keynote on leadership performance under pressure

Give your team the tools to stay calm, take charge, and perform when it counts.

This keynote equips leaders and teams with practical frameworks to assess any situation, take decisive action, and keep people safe — even on their worst day.

What happens when your worst day arrives?

When things go wrong — and they will — your team needs more than a plan. They need to know how to perform.

This keynote shows leaders how to recognise the type of event they’re facing, respond with clarity, and avoid turning every bump into a full-blown crisis.

Is this a problem… or a crisis?

Because when everything is treated like a crisis, nothing is.

On one of my worst days in the rescue helicopter, we pulled a man from a disabled yacht — only for him to fall from the harness back into the raging sea. We lost sight of him.

But no one panicked.

We didn’t call the CEO. We didn’t escalate it up the chain.

We stayed in business-as-usual mode, spotted him amongst huge waves, and rescued him (again!).

Later, we reviewed it, improved a process, and made sure the lesson stuck.

This is what crisis-ready teams do.

They don’t freeze. They don’t flail.

They perform calmly, clearly, and with purpose.

In this keynote, your team will learn:

      • How to quickly distinguish between business-as-usual, an incident, and a crisis – so the right response is triggered at the right time

      • Why governance should stay out of the weeds — and how to separate oversight from response

      • A practical, repeatable framework for preparing, responding, and recovering from high-pressure events (BRACE Framework)

      • Six focused questions that cut through noise and create situational clarity (SIZE-UP Framework)

      • A simple four-step model to keep people physically safe and make better decisions in dangerous situations (SAFE Framework)

Dave is an amazing speaker and we would recommend him to any other conference organiser who is looking for a focused and insightful presenter.

Feedback from our attendees noted that he kept them engaged, shared powerful real-world stories and provided clear, practical insights they could actually takeaway.

        Guy Pascoe

CEO, Independent Schools of New Zealand

Dave was the keynote speaker for our ServiceIQ Business Briefings, which involved 14 events across the country.

His sessions were engaging and well received, with consistently strong feedback from attendees.

Dave took the time to understand the purpose of each event and adapted his approach to suit different venues,  audiences and contexts.

Even when last-minute issues arose, he remained calm and focused; none of it phased him.

        Highly recommended.
